{"id":2792,"date":"2026-09-10T11:14:30","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T17:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yourforest.org\/?p=2792"},"modified":"2026-09-10T11:19:34","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T17:19:34","slug":"territorio-esponja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yourforest.org\/en\/territorio-esponja\/","title":{"rendered":"Infiltrating Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">At kilometer 21 along the Tuxtla Guti\u00e9rrez\u2013San Crist\u00f3bal de Las Casas highway, we are working with four community members from Chiquinivalv\u00f3, Zinacant\u00e1n, to restore soil, vegetation, and water resources on their plots.\n\nThe plots at Km 21 are located on steep slopes with severe erosion, exposing sedimentary limestone bedrock and resulting in human-induced desertification. Maize and rainfed beans are cultivated in this area using the slash-and-burn practice. However, due to the degraded soil conditions, crop productivity is low, with a high dependence on agrochemicals.
